Brontë Academy Trust

Achieving Together for Every Child

Accountability

Our Ethos & Principles of Working

Brontë Academy Trust are a group of great schools who add value to each other: each individual school context is important and celebrated but every Brontë school works collaboratively as part of a team towards our common purpose, knowing that we are stronger when we learn together. As a result, we feel a sense of collective responsibility and mutual accountability to each other and strive for continuous improvement in everything that we do.

Values

Our values determine how we work together and the behaviours that drive our success. They guide our decision making, define our beliefs and help foster a strong culture:

'We put pupils first'        prioritising  each child, we create opportunities that pave the way for their growth, their success and ensure they thrive.

'We learn together'         building collaborative communities where common purpose, and supportive structures allow knowledge, talent and expertise to flourish.

'We act with integrity'   authenticity and honesty shape our interactions, and respect and care for others underscores our commitment to doing what's right.

'We make a difference'  having passion, resilience and courage to take action so that we have the greatest possible positive impact on others.

Equality

What is the Public Sector Equality Duty (the PSED)?
The Equality Act 2010 introduced a single, general duty for public bodies, including schools, and which extends to all ‘protected characteristics’ – race, disability, sex, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, and gender reassignment.

Legislation and guidance
• The Equality Act 2010, which introduced the public sector equality duty and protects people from discrimination
• The Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) Regulations 2011, which require schools to publish information to demonstrate how they are complying with the public sector equality duty and to publish equality objectives
• The Equality Act 2010 and schools: non-statutory advice from the Department for Education

Our Aim
Bronte Academy Trust and its schools are committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for all our employees, learners, potential learners and their families irrespective of race, gender, disability, belief, sexual orientation, age or socio-economic background. We are determined to develop a culture of inclusion and diversity in which all those connected to the school and Trust feel proud of their identity and ability to participate fully in school life.

Equality Objective
The Trust is required to set and publish Equality Objectives. Our current objectives are:
To strengthen the use of internal data to enhance our equality monitoring and identify any actions required to ensure; fair employment policies and practices; discriminatory behaviours between pupils; and help identify gaps in diversity across the schools and Trust.
